Tomorrow’s UFC Fight Night 31 marks the return of the UFC Fight for the Troops event. It’s been roughly 22 months since the last Fight for the Troops and let me say that it’s long over due and welcome back.
We’ve got a full week of UFC action ahead of us, and we’re kicking it off with a Wednesday Fight For The Troops UFC Fight Night 31 card. I’ve always liked that the UFC takes a stance for this cause, and the former soldiers fighting here always bring an extra bit of fire to the cage on these nights.
In the final preliminary bout before the UFC 163 main card, light heavyweight Anthony Perosh stunned the Brazilian crowd with a 14 second knockout of their countryman Vinny Magalhaes.
It seems like the UFC is in Brazil every other month these days but unlike the typical free card when in Brazil, tomorrow’s UFC 163 is a PPV event. The fight card has taken a serious beating due to injuries and while it still has a title fight at the top, the UFC 163 main card overall is pretty thin.
Brazil cards are a nitch market it seems, and how UFC 163 is a PPV, I can’t tell you. The main event is undeniably awesome, as Jose Aldo looks to lock up the division, taking on replacement fighter Chan Sung Jung. We’ve also got an interesting co-main, as former champion Lyoto Machida takes on rising fighter Phil Davis. Below you’ll see what fights I could sift out of the rubble of the card, so let’s take a look at the slim pickings.
The first fight of its kind inside the Octagon, Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche did well to represent the female mixed martial artists of the world in their title clash at UFC 157. Defending champion Rousey found herself in trouble right away in this bout, yet using her judo skills and a good bit of patience and grit, she was able to avoid the disaster of a first round submission. Back in control, Rousey turned the tables on her foe, and once again found her trademark armbar before the end of the first round.
The all female MMA promotion Invicta held their first event of the New Year from Kansas City, KS last night with Invicta 4. The 13 bout fight card aired live on Internet Pay Per View, but issues with the stream forced the promotion to make Invicta 4 free. Hopefully the stream worked for you because once again the ladies of Invicta shined.
Tonight’s Invicta FC 2 was only the second show the all female promotion has put on but you won’t know this if not for the “2” in the title. Invicta and the ladies that stepped into the cage at the Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas put on a great show tonight with some of the better fights of the year.
Bellator 100 Weigh-in Pictures
Last night the fighters for tonight’s Bellator 100 stepped onto the scales with all 24 fighters making weight. The historic 100th event for Bellator takes places tonight from the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Arizona and features an all welterweight main card on Spike TV.
UFC on FOX 7: Henderson vs. Melendez Weigh-in Pictures
Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale Weigh-in Pictures
Amidst everything else going on, the UFC has themselves a busy day today with the UFC on FX 6 taking place in Australia and The Ultimate Fighter 16 finale weigh-ins. All 24 fighters made weight today for tomorrow’s event that will crown The Ultimate Fighter 16 welterweight winner.
UFC on FUEL TV 4 Weigh-in Results and Photos
SAN JOSE, Cal. – Still recovering from Saturday’s UFC 148, MMAValor.com was inside the HP Pavilion for today’s UFC on FUEL TV 4 weigh-ins. A few of the fighters would need to step onto the scale behind a towel but all 22 fighters on the UFC on FUEL TV 4 fight card made weight.
TUF Live Finale Live Results and Event Pictures
The long grind of the first live version of The Ultimate Fighter ends tonight at the TUF Live Finale in Las Vegas. Featuring 12 of the 16 TUF Live contestants, the 10 bout card will be headlined by an important match-up in the welterweight division between Jake Ellenberger and Martin Kampmann.
