It seems like these FOX cards have been getting special treatment as yet again Saturday’s UFC on FOX 6 looks stacked. Headlining the card will be the flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson as he makes his first title defense against The Ultimate Fighter winner John Dodson.
Anthony Pettis is looking to get a title shot by taking out Donald Cerrone at this Saturday’s UFC on Fox 6, but even with a win he might be waiting a long time.
The UFC on Fox series has been heating up with their stacked television cards and this weekend’s UFC on FOX 6 is no exception to the rule. We have the first defense of the Flyweight title on hand for our main event, as champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson takes on TUF 14 winner John Dodson, who will look to be the third TUF winner to take a title in the UFC.
Spearheading the highly-successful UFC on Fox 5, Benson Henderson executed a perfect game plan against opponent Nate Diaz. Using his foot work and long range attacks coupled with his clinch wrestling, Henderson attacked Diaz at his two weakest ranges (fighting from his back or in close) and never let the challenger get into gear. After five rounds, Henderson walked away with a painless decision win, looking every bit the champion.
Despite another weekend without the UFC, last week was filled with MMA news and capped off with a busy weekend of fights. News dropped of two UFC 153 fighters testing positive following the event last week and the World Series of Fighting held its first event.
With only four bouts in his professional MMA career, Sergio Pettis is scheduled to fight for the third time this year on June 15th when he squares off against Tom McKenna.
MMA fans who religiously followed the WEC during it’s time under the ZUFFA banner will remember the talk from fans that the WEC Lightweight fighters couldn’t hang with any of the top-level UFC fighters. Fast forward to UFC 144 and all that talk was put to rest as Ben Henderson took down Frankie Edgar in a battle for the ages, winning the UFC Lightweight Championship in the process.
Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis is arguably more famous for his Jackie Chan, Matrix style kick to the head of Benson Henderson, than he is for winning the WEC belt from ‘Bendo’ at the final WEC event before the UFC fully integrated the organization. When Pettis made his UFC debut, talks of him being the number one guy, alongside Jim Miller, were the dominant discussions in regards to the UFC lightweight division.

Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.
