So, here I am. It’s a Saturday night, and I’m sitting here not watching a fight. I can’t believe I used to wait four or five months for another UFC to roll around, but now I go two weeks and I’m about ready to pay the neighborhood kids to fight in my empty swimming pool out back. While I love having a nearly constant stream of fights on my over-priced cable package, one thing bothers me about the modern age of MMA. All these damn fights are fair!
Asia’s largest MMA promotion, ONE FC held the largest event in the Philippines yesterday inside the Smart Araneta in Manila. The night of action featured local heroes Eduard Folayang and Eric Kelly in separate bouts as well as the ONE FC debut of Bibiano Fernandes. The card was also filled with several former UFC stars, including Phil Baroni, Jens Pulver, Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia.
One of the best head kick knockout of this year came at Titan Fighting Championship 17 when lightweight James Krause flattened out Nathan Schut. Krause added another head kick during to his ever-growing hit list at last night’s inaugural Resurrection Fighting Alliance event in Kearney, NE.
There comes a time when it’s not just wise, but mandatory for a professional fighter to call it quits. MMA is a dangerous sport that tends to produce concussions, broken bones, dislocated limbs and in a very select few instances, even more. There’s no reason to loiter with the lions if your ability to defend yourself has all but disappeared.
