Season five Ends on a Sour Note with Bellator 59

BELLATOR FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIPS LOGO

What a difference a week makes. Following last week’s Bellator 58 that featured a fight of the year candidate, Bellator 59 ended season five on an unfortunate sour note. Featuring two tournament finals and two exciting lightweight bouts on the main card, things looked promising on paper.

Bellator 59 Bold Predictions

Bellator’s season five has been one of the greatest for the promotion and it will come to a close at this Saturday’s Bellator 58 event in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Coming off last weekend’s exciting lightweight championship main event that saw Michael Chandler defeat Eddie Alvarez, the guys on Saturday’s card have a tough act to follow.

UFC 123: Joe Lauzon vs George Sotiropoulos official

The rumored bout between lightweight Joe Lauzon (19-5) and George Sotiropoulos (13-2) was made official today by Lauzon. Posted on his website, Lauzon announced the fight with Sotiropoulos will take place November 20th at UFC123 in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

UFC 116 official and shaping up nicely

The UFC officially UFC 116 this week and the rumored main event of Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin was also announced. The unified Heavyweight title is on the line as both will enter the cage with belts but only one can leave with one. Easily the biggest Heavyweight (both 265lbs.) fight the UFC has seen since the formation of the division. Lesnar (4-1) has been out since UFC 100 with diverticulitis and when fight time comes it will be almost one year to the day so ring rust will be a big concern. Carwin (12-0) is coming off a 1st round TKO over Frank Mir to win the interim Heavyweight belt at UFC 111. There is one thing that is for sure with this fight and that’s it will not get into the judges hands for a decision.

UFC 111: St.-Pierre vs. Hardy predictions

Saturday is UFC 111 and we are in for a treat with two title fights plus a welterweight showdown between two former title contenders looking to get another shot at the belt. The UFC is returning to New Jersey for the first time since UFC 78 back in November of 2007. The main event will be Welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre defending his belt against the very brash Dan Hardy. The Co-main event will be for the interim Heavyweight title as former champ Frank Mir will look to get another shot at Brock Lesnar as he takes on Undefeated Shane Carwin. Another solid fight on the card is the rematch between Jon Fitch vs. Thaigo Alves that could give us the next welterweight #1 contender.Lets not forget about the rest of the fight card that is very solid with names like Jim Miller, Nate Diaz, Matt Brown, Ben Saunders and Kurt Pellegrino. MMA Fanes have been looking forward to this fight card for months and we are finally only days away, here are my predictions.

Alves Out! Ben Saunders has stepped in to face Jon Fitch with Alves being out. The Kurt Pellegrino vs. Fabricio Camoes has been moved up to the main card to take the vacant spot.

Thiago Alves off UFC 111 card with brain irregularity [updated]

According to the website TMZ welterweight fighter Thiago Alves has been forced off the UFC 111with brain irregularity. Alves was set to face Jon Fitch in a rematch on the nights main card but during a pre-fight CAT scan revealed the irregularity in an artery in the brain. The article also states there will be no replacement fighter brought in to replace Alves leaving Fitch without a fight on Saturday. The UFC is going  fly Pitbull to a specialist for further evaluation but obviously something like this is not to be taken lightly. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed, so we can see him in the ring kicking legs and busting heads again.
