Well yet another year has come and gone, 2012 was an odd year for MMA but the year will not easily be forgotten. This year saw the UFC all over network TV, Bellator stumble its way into next year and smaller promotions like RFA, LFC and XFC make a name for themselves. Unfortunately it also saw Strikeforce take a nosedive and the UFC cancel an event for the first time.
Daniel Straus (20-4) has cemented his title shot for the Bellator featherweight belt. If he wanted to, he could just coast on his accomplishments and wait for it. But that’s not his style; instead Straus will be fighting at Bellator 78 against UFC vet Alvin Robinson.
Last month saw little change to the MMA Fighter Rankings, while this month balanced things out with plenty of changes. The month on July saw most of the top middleweights in the world in action and the results have re-worked the division rankings
Pat Curran is a pocket-sized rock’em sock’em robot. The Bellator 145 pound kingpin earned his title by destroying Joe Warren at Bellator 60. Patricio “Pitbull” Freire is 17-1 and his lone loss was a disputed split decision loss to former champion Joe Warren. When these two combustible agents meet on August 24th, an MMA explosion is the sure fire result.
Quick finishes and split decisions are what the fans in Atlantic City, New Jersey saw at Bellator 68. Not to mention the odd scoring and curious doctor stoppage, before finishing off the night’s action with two season six tournament bouts.
Bellator is back today with some very exciting fights at Bellator 68 as the featherweight tournament will come to an end in the night main event. Daniel Straus (19-4) will meet submission specialist Marlon Sandro (22-3) in what may end up being Bellator’s best fight so far this season. Both fighters have a strong set of skills that make this match worth watching to even the most casual MMA fan.
The long break between UFC events is nearly over and the lull of March will soon return to jam-packed MMA action. Even with the long break, the month was carried primarily by Bellator who delivered some great outcomes.
The sixth season for Bellator is just starting but fans have already been reminded of what the underestimated MMA promotion brings to the table each and every week. Aside from the obvious tournament aspect that draws fans into the drama that unfolds over three separate events, Bellator more often than not delivers crowd pleasing Finishes.
