UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin predictions

The biggest (size wise) title fight in UFC history is going down Saturday night between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin. What makes this fight so big is the two fighters are well, BIG! At weigh-ins each fighter will have needed to cut weight to make the 265 lbs. heavyweight limit. The two fighters will enter the cage with belts and ironically this isn’t the first time Lesnar has been in this predicament. The last time we saw Lesnar in the cage it was under the same circumstance only Frank Mir was the interim champ and not Shane Carwin.

Arizona State BJJ Open recap

This last weekend Arizona held its yearly State Championships for Brazilian Jiu- Jitsu in Mesa Arizona allowing MMA Valor full access to a great event. The first thing I was thinking was that this was going to be a smaller tournament but I was mistaken. There had to be 10-15 schools from across the west coast competing and the High school Auditorium was Jam packed at full capacity.

UFC continues to revamp the Middleweight division

The UFC looking to add some new talent to their middleweight division the UFC today signed undefeated South Korean Dong Yi Yang (9-0). Yang most recently fought in May against Bill Saures at Trench Warz 12, where he won by TKO in just 67 seconds. Yang’s nickname is “The Hammer” which he has dropped the hammer eight times on his opponents. In fact Yang has yet to go to a decsion scoring one submission and eight TKO’s in his nine victories.

Tyson Griffin Steps in to Face Takanori Gomi

Originally scheduled to fight Joe Stevenson in August at UFC on Versus 2, Takanori Gomi will now have a new challenge in Tyson Griffin, who has risen to the occasion to replace the injured Stevenson. Both fighters are looking to get back on the winning track after disappointing losses.

Griffin will look to put his recent loss behind him as he takes the fight on about a months notice. Fellow Xtreme Couture fighter Evan Dunham earned the split decision over Griffin this past June.

Check out this video of an actual media person or should I say someone given a media credential asking a very stupid question to Roger Gracie. You are going to have to listen carefully because Strikeforce didn’t have a mic for questions.

If you couldn’t hear that, the question was “are you related to the famous Gracie family….” WTF

Legalize MMA in New York by a New Yorker

Today is the day that the New York State budget is voted upon. Not interested in politics you say. Well if you’re a fan of MMA you should be.

The legalization of MMA has gone through all stages of congress and now awaits its fate as New Yorkers look to approve it in the budget vote. The Holy Grail, New York is the only state where MMA is illegal.
