The UFC middleweight division continues to be in the news as yesterday reports surfaced that Vitor Belfort (19-8) was out of his scheduled main event fight with Yushin Okami at UFC 122. The fight was supposed to determine the number one contender in the middleweight division. Nate Marquardt, who just fought at UFN 22 was quickly announced as the replacement against Okami in the UFC 122 main event.

It was originally believed that Belfort was injured and that was the reason for the move, but more info has surfaced and a deeper plan seems to have been put into motion. Moves that were forced when the CSAC announced that Chael Sonnen had failed a P.E.D. test following his UFC 117 fight.

Today Belfort’s coach Shawn Tompkins wrote on Facebook page that “All I can tell you as his coach is that he is 100% healthy.” He added “you will receive Vitor Belfort news very soon”. That info was confirmed by UFC President, Dana White from his twitter account when he said “Vitor is not injured”.

All signs now point to the UFC preparing to announce that Anderson Silva will face Vitor Belfort in early 2011 instead of Chael Sonnen. If a Silva vs. Belfort fight is announced it would be the 4th time the two have been scheduled to fight each other, hopefully the fourth time will be the charm for MMA fans.
