Pat Barry vs. Joey Beltran Should be Fun

This Saturdays Fight for the Troops event wages many great battles set to support all of the hard-working soldiers at Fort Hood. One fight in particular has the fans drooling over a potentially great standup war between two hard-hitting heavyweights. Pat Barry and Joey Beltran meet on the main card this Saturday night, live on spike TV and promise to be epic.
Pat Barry (5-2 MMA) is a kickboxing wizard who loves the sport of MMA more than most fighters around but has recently been in limbo about wanting to fight. Viewing his twitter account you would think he is just another wacky fan but his passion for striking has leaded him to the top of MMA promotions. Recently training with Brock Lesnar Pat feels he has patched up some holes in his game which could prove deadly effective against a wrestler based Joey Beltran.
Joey Beltran (14-2 MMA) is a wrestling and boxing based fighter that was known for some huge upset wins coming into the UFC, short notice and all. His chin is solid and heart is big and proved it in his recent fight with Pat Barry’s teammate Matt Mitrione. The scrap won Fight of the Night bonus and Mitrione took the unanimous decision at UFC 119. Now he steps up in competition to fight Barry and earn his shot at revenge on team Rufus Sport.
Keys to the Fight: Barry should be the obvious favorite but recent statements might have the betters in question about his willingness to go the distance against Beltran. His Kicks could chop down the much smaller based fighter in Beltran and he has the power to do some serious damage to Beltran. On that note though, you can’t bet against Beltran who has a solid chin and decent striking to keep him in the fight. Not to mention Beltran has the better ground game and a takedown might be enough to place Barry into a position for submission or to steal a round.
This fight is closer than many give Beltran credit for, but one thing is for sure, this fight will be very entertaining.
Be sure to tune into Spike TV for a main card packed with fighters wanting to stand in trade, this fight being the one with the heaviest gloves.
