Nick Diaz is Not Impressed With Paul Daley

Nick Diaz Talking Paul Daley 300x214 Nick Diaz is Not Impressed With Paul DaleyLast night Nick Diaz (24-7, 1nc) defended his welterweight title for the second time against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (18-14) in the night’s main event. The skeptics said that Santos didn’t deserve a title shot, having only one fight at welterweight and an average record.

After rocking Diaz in the first and holding his own, the champion finally took over and finished Santos with an armbar in the third round. The performance might not have changed the skeptic’s opinions but it did earn the respect of the champion. “He was coming straight forward, trying to fight and I give a guy like that a lot of respect,” said Diaz of his opponent.

That same respect cannot be said for his possible next opponent in heavy-handed UK striker Paul Daley (26-9-2). “I’m not really impressed with Paul Daley,” Diaz claimed when asked about him as a next title defense. Diaz doesn’t consider Daley a mixed martial artist, just a guy with great stand up and don’t try to judge Daley by his victory over Scott Smith either because Diaz is even less impress with Scott Smith.

“Don’t judge him (Daley) by the Scott Smith Fight,” proclaimed Diaz, who also went onto say that “Smith has never done anything to up his game.”

Daley will be fighter next month in England at the BAMMA 5 event against Yuya Shirai and should he win the talk is he‘ll get that title shot against the unimpressed Diaz. Should Daley lose though he’d most likely miss out on the opportunity at the welterweight title and leave Strikeforce in a search for a new opponent.

A search that will be tough to find a “quality” opponent for Diaz, who acknowledges that Strikeforce doesn’t currently have any top ranked welterweights on their roster, except for himself of course.

Nick Diaz is even less impressive than Paul Daley. Who has he really fought if we want to get that technical? He’s just a UFC wash-out.

  2. goose says:

diaz is way more well rounded than daley is… i like daley’s fights and all
but diaz is right daley is a one sided fighter like aoki is… you have to well versed in everything and imo diaz well win by decision against daley should that happen…

I think diaz will destroy daley. Daley has no ground game at all….look for diaz to win similar to the way he just beat Cyborg.
