The Janitor makes quick work of Brilz at UFC 129

Vladimir Matyushenko is a long time veteran of the sport, a 31 fight and 14 year veteran and one of the most respected fighters in mixed martial arts. The Janitor also proves he still has some tricks up his sleeve and left in the tank, finishing Jason Brilz in just twenty seconds of their UFC 129 affair.

With a Canadians in each one of the two title fights at UFC 129, the 55,000 fans in attendance had hoped to be celebrating tonight. Well fans had to settle with only one of their hometown favorites walked out of the Rogers Centre with gold around their waists.

The UFC took their show north to Toronto and in front of a massive audience of some 55,000 people, they choose to air their entire undercard.  There were five fights on facebook.com, here’s the result of those fights.

Who You Got? UFC 129: Mark Hominick vs. Jose Aldo

MMA Valor’s esteemed owner Josh Wood and I are taking opposing views on the big fights this Saturday night.  We’ll tell you why a fighter can win the fight, and let you pick your own winner.  In this fight matchup, I’ve got Mark “The Machine” Hominick and Josh has Jose Aldo.

Ok, this one is a little tougher for me.  Jose Aldo is one of the best in the world, perhaps THE best in the game, but on any given night, a fighter can lose.  What can you look for here?  Mark Hominick is the best boxer in the division.  He’s trained by standup maven Shawn Tompkins and that spells trouble for his opponents. 

Strikeforce Signs Undefeated Lorenz Larkin

After his impressive television debut on the April 1st Strikeforce Challengers Series card, undefeated light heavyweight Lorenz Larkin has been signed by Strikeforce.  Larkin (10-0) displayed vicious kicks and strong strikes against the K1 veteran Scott Lighty (6-1) to win the fight by second round TKO stoppage. 

BAMMA Announces Complete Fight Card for BAMMA 6

The leading Mixed Martial Artist promotion in Europe, British Association of Mixed Martial Arts finalized their BAMMA 6 card titled “Kong vs. Ninja” which takes place at the Wembley Arena in London on Saturday May 21st.

Headlined by a BAMMA middleweight championship bout between Tom “Kong” Watson (13-4) defending his belt for the second time against MMA veteran Murilo “Ninja” Rua (20-11-1).  Watson retained his BAMMA title in his last fight at BAMMA 4 by defeating Alex Reid by Unanimous decision. After winning four in a row, Rua lost his last bout against a heavy (weighted 5.5 lbs. heavy) Roy Boughton last October.
