With a Canadians in each one of the two title fights at UFC 129, the 55,000 fans in attendance had hoped to be celebrating tonight. Well fans had to settle with only one of their hometown favorites walked out of the Rogers Centre with gold around their waists.

Both Georges St. Pierre and Jose Aldo defended their titles by unanimous decisions to close out an exciting night of action and excitement. The night saw four pure knock outs, two submissions and five fights ending in the opening round before the night was closed out by the title fights. While both title fights totaled 10 rounds the remaining 10 fights were only 19 rounds combined.

In the co-main event, Canada’s Mark Hominick came up short against the featherweight champion Aldo who was making his first defense of the UFC featherweight title. Hominick looked battered and bloody after the fight, including a massive hematoma above the right eye that almost stopped the fight. The soon to be father continued on and finished the last round in top position dropping bombs on the champ.

In the main event St. Pierre stuffed all the takedown attempts from Shields and forced him to stand with him. Not known for his stand up game, Shields looked stiff and out-of-place at times, but did do damage on the Canadian champion. The fight was slowed by a Shields punch that blurred the vision of St. Pierre making things tougher for St. Pierre and possibly allowing the challenger to hang around in the fight.

Both champions went home with their gold still around their waists but didn’t overly impressive in their victories. The attendance on the night ended up at 55,724 for a gate of $11.5 million Canadian / $12.075 million US. Here are the complete results for UFC 128: St. Pierre vs. Shields:
