In an injury ridden card Bart Palaszewski is now out of his UFC 130 fight with Gleison Tibau. Oliveira who has been on a skid in his UFC career was cut loose after his decision lost to Andre Winner, but now returns to the UFC on a four fight win streak. The fight card from top to bottom has suffered through injuries and was rearranged the best way possible now pairing two Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts coming off of current octagon wins.
Tibau (22-7) is one of the largest lightweights in the world and has explosive grappling and strikes that can be dangerous to anyone that steps across him. Taking a fight with him on ten days notice may not be the best idea, but when you get the call to come back to the best in the world you have to take what is on the table.
Oliveira (14-3) also possesses the power to stop an opponent with strikes, but little is known about the fighters who have suffered at his hands. Anything can happen in MMA, and taking a quick glance at this week’s Ultimate fighter episode proves it more when Chris Cope, a major underdog, shocked everyone by eliminating the favorite to win the season.
This should be a highly active fight with good submission attempts that glorify the grappling aspect of the sport mixed in with heavy shots and oversized lightweights.
UFC 130 comes to fans next weekend with a new main event between Quinton Jackson and Matt Hamill, and other notables as Thiago Alves, Miguel Torres, Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, and Brian Stann.
