Looks like Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber 3 at UFC 148
If the UFC isn’t careful fans might start to think Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber is a yearly occurrence that comes around every July. Following their Bantamweight title fight last July at UFC 132 the two will likely feel a bit of déjà vu when they step back into the Octagon on July 7th at UFC 148 for their third meeting. The rivals will square off in the same exact arena, one year and five days after Cruz evened the score with a unanimous decision victory.
Before the trilogy happens the two fighters will oppose each other as coaches on the upcoming 15th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” The new season starts on March 9th and will featuring live fights for the first time in the series’ history, and will debut on FX.
The trilogy was first announced by UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta, who took a page from UFC President Dana White and posting the information on his Twitter account last night.
Urijah Faber (26-5) defeated Dominick Cruz (19-1) at WEC 26 via first round submission to defend the WEC featherweight title in their first meeting. Cruz was making his WEC debut that night and two fights later would drop down to bantamweight, where he would eventually become champion.
Now even at one win a piece Cruz and Faber will build up the fight through TUF 15 before their rubber match in Las Vegas ay UFC 148.
UFC 148 will coincide with the UFC Fan Expo taking place at the nearby Mandalay Bay Events Center.
