The Highs and Lows of ONE FC: Pride of a Nation

Asia’s largest MMA promotion, ONE FC held the largest event in the Philippines yesterday inside the Smart Araneta in Manila. The night of action featured local heroes Eduard Folayang and Eric Kelly in separate bouts as well as the ONE FC debut of Bibiano Fernandes. The card was also filled with several former UFC stars, including Phil Baroni, Jens Pulver, Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia.

The ONE FC: Pride of a Nation fight card was streamed live on the internet and the 11 bouts were full of highs and some lows.

Highs:

Bibiano Fernandes and Eduard Folayang win impressive, crowd pleasing wins in the nights Main & Co-Main events. Fernandes dominated Gustavo Falciroli for 15 minutes to earn a decision, while Folayang had a tougher time against Felipe Enomoto but also earned a decision as well as an upcoming title fight. Former UFC fight Phil Baroni snapped a two fight losing streak and provided the night “WOW” moment with his first round knockout of Rodrigo Ribeiro.

Lows:

Former UFC heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia fought for the fourth time and well things didn’t go exactly as planned. Trying to earn their series at 2-2 Arlovski got a bit overzealous and landed an illegal kick to Sylvia and the match was ruled a no contest. Their fourth fight was a stretch at best and now there could be a fifth? The lowest low of the night was from the former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver who lost for the 11^th time in his last 16 bouts. Pulver lost by TKO to Eric Kelly and fans of “Lil’ Evil” have to hope that he can finally come to peace with the fact it’s time for him to hang them up.

Mitch Chilson defeats Shannon Wiratchai by 2^nd rd. TKO (2:12)

Honorio Banario defeats Andrew Benibe by 3^rd rd. TKO (3:47)

The promotion will make its return next month with ONE FC: RISE OF KINGS from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 6 October. The event will make ONE FC history as three title belts will be on the line as well as a main event Super Fight between DREAM Lightweight Champion Shinya Aoki and Arnaud Lepont.
