The Ultimate Fighter 17After last week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter 17 where two fighters advanced into the semifinals, tonight’s episode will complete the quarterfinal round. Kelvin Gastelum from Team Sonnen and Dylan Andrews from Team Jones have advanced and will learn their opponents for the next round tonight.

In the first quarterfinal bout Jimmy Quinlan from Team Sonnen faces off against Josh Samman of Team Jones. The second bout of the night will see Uriah Hall of Team Sonnen take on Bubba McDaniel from Team Jones. That is if McDaniel can make it…..

As his team practices McDaniel lay curled up complaining of being in pain and tired from fighting three times in a short period of time. Jones is unsure if his fighter even wants to fight and has Clint Hester training as a potential backup.

If you’ve watched this season you know that Josh Samman is very a confident guy so it should come as no surprise that he is confident heading into his bout with Jimmy Quinlan. He feels that Quinlan wants nothing to do with his standup game so if he stops the takedown he’ll easily win. His teammate Gilbert Smith isn’t so confident and brings up injuries to the back and leg that have been bothering Samman as the reasoning.

For Jimmy Quinlan the gameplan is simple, rush his opponent and get the takedown. Everyone knows it and he doesn’t plan on changing that approach for his fight with Samman. He did say that he would like to establish his striking to open the fight a little bit.

Fight #1 – Josh Samman (Team Jones) vs. Jimmy Quinlan (Team Sonnen)

Round one: Quinlan charges Samman who tries to defend the takedown but gets picked up and slammed to the canvas. Like his first fight though Quinlan is not doing that much with the top position. Samman gets back up with a minute left in the round and storms Quinlan, catching him with two knees and finishing him with some ground and pound.

Most of the fighters believe Uriah Hall will defeat Bubba McDaniel in the final quarterfinal bout. When the two-step onto the scales the body language from McDaniel really has Jon Jones worried about his friend.

Fight #2 – Uriah Hall (Team Sonnen) vs. Bubba McDaniel (Team Jones)

Round one: The two touch gloves and as McDaniel came in he gets hit with a knee from Hall followed by a short right hand to the eye that ends that fight. McDaniel had no clue with hit him and his eye looks a mess.

It’s two from Team Jones fighters and two Team Sonnen fighters heading into the semifinals.Left standing are Dylan Andrews and Josh Samman from Team Jones and Kelvin Gastelum and Uriah Hall from Team Sonnen.

Semifinal Matchups are Josh Samman vs. Kevlin Gastelum and Uriah Hall and Dylan Andrews. The two semifinal fights will happen on next week’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter 17.
