MMA at Disneyland

Posted in MMA on October 11th, 2009 by killjoy_

So I’m in Disneyland and didn’t get to see the WEC tonight (1:30am so last night) so instead of writing what I didn’t watch I’m going random. I decided I was going to look at what people were wearing while waiting in lines. Typically people are rather conservative with there clothes at disneyland. Half are wearing disney stuff while the other half are a mixture of solid colors, mall teenie bopper wear and the select few that wish to be individual. Those are the ones I was looking for, as I counted the MMA items I spotted. The numbers won’t seem high but we are talking about Disneyland with a ton of kids and I can’t see everything.

Tapout – 6 items (not a surprise)

Extreme Couture – 2 (this actually shocked me)

UFC – 2

Affliction – 1

Two fights made official today

Posted in MMA, Strikeforce, UFC on October 8th, 2009 by killjoy_

Today we had two major fight officially announced. Strikeforce announced that Fabricio Werdum will face Antonio Silva on the Nov. 7th Fedor vs. Rogers card. Silva is coming off a one year suspension by the California State Athletic Commision for testing positive for Boldenone. He defected Justin Eilers in July of 2008 for the EliteXC heavyweight championship before testing positive. Werdum is coming off a quick win over Mike Kyle at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg in his Strikeforce debut. A win by Werdum will keep him at the top of the Strikeforce heavyweight division and a possible match-up with the winner of the nights main event. If Silva wins, it would put him back on the heavyweight map and possible redemption for the steroid claim.

The UFC also announced the Forrest Griffin has stepped in for injured Mark Coleman to face Tito Ortiz at UFC 106. This will be a rematch of their UFC 59 split decision won by Ortiz. this rematch is made possible because Mark Coleman pulled out of the fight a few days ago after his request for the fight to be postponed was denied. Ortiz posted the change on his twitter account and immediately the opponent rumors started. I posted my guess on the opponent here, got luck and got it correct. I really like the rematch here especially over the Coleman fight originally planned. Both fighters will get a nice push up thelight heavyweight ladder with a win here. It’s crazy how Forrest just takes tough fight after tough fight.

UFC 104 Conference Call 10/9

Posted in Exclusive, MMA, UFC on October 8th, 2009 by killjoy_

MMA Valor participated in today’s conference call with Cain Velasquez and Ben Rothwell for their upcoming fight at UFC 104. Here is a recap of the 40 minute call:

Right now Cain weighs 240 and Ben weighs 265

Ben doesn’t think there is enough fighters for a super heavy Division (235lbs-265lbs)

Both fighters didn’t change their training after opponents were changed

Ben likes the tough fight with Cain over Chase Gromley as a win would get him in the heavyweight mix faster

Ben last fought in December but isn’t worried about the 10 month layoff

Cain thinks Brock Lesnar will have the slight advantage over Shane Carwin at UFC 106

Cain also thinks that a fight with Lesnar would be much tougher then one with Carwin for him

Ben thinks a fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira would be the toughest out of the three top contenders

Cain expects a much tougher fight with Ben then his last fight vs. Cheick Kongo

Ben is prepared for the boo’s from the heavy Latino crowd in LA as the underdog to Cain

Quick Ultimate Fighter ep. #4 recap

Posted in MMA, UFC, Ultimate Fighter on October 7th, 2009 by killjoy_

Tonight’s episode starts out with team Rashad laying out their fight plans to go 8-0 in round one. What they didn’t know was they had a snitch in Matt who told team Rampage the plan. Rashad and the team wasn’t very pleased but Matt didn’t think anything of it. Rashad decides to keep the match up how they planned and picks Brendan Schaub vs. Demico Rogers.

It’s fight time and team Rampage is sitting in the dressing room waiting for Rampage and the coaches. Team Rashad is warming up in the adjacent room as they sit and wait. Finally Rampage walks into the dressing room and the fighters step into the octagon. Both fighters come out throwing some measuring punches until Rogers get Schaub down. Rogers is controlling the fight on the ground landing a few good punches. He got sloppy while trying to get mount and was pushed off by Schaub, who then takes his back and slips in a nice anaconda choke that ends the fight.

DREAM Has Better Lightweights Than the UFC Claims Shinya Aoki

Posted in Dream, MMA on October 7th, 2009 by killjoy_

Seriouly? He need to go back and watch his fight(s) over again cause I beg to differ. Aoki is a great submission grappler (pants help) but other then that he has nothing. Aoki has little to no striking and even when in top position he still has not striking. You put him in there against BJ Penn and he’d get destroyed. Aoki making these statement are worthless anyway as he’ll never fight any of the top UFC lightweights anyway. The UFC’s top lightweights are overall better then Aoki and he knows it. He is playing to the crowd knowing full well they love him and he’ll never have to back the claims up.
