Coming off their biggest show of all time last week, Bellator will try to keep the ball rolling at tomorrow’s Bellator 107. Being sandwiched in between two UFC Fight Night cards has left the card slightly forgotten but with three tournament finals anchoring things, Bellator 107 should not be overlooked.
Bellator MMA was back in California tonight for the heavyweight tournament semifinals and Bellator 102. Two former UFC heavyweights were making their Bellator debuts looking to turn their luck around and rejuvenate their career. One of them was successful while the other one was quickly denied.
The ninth season for Bellator MMA is currently in full swing and the last tournament of the season is scheduled to begin this Friday at Bellator 102. The four, yes I said four, man heavyweight tournament has been assembled in an abbreviated format to eventually take on the Bellator heavyweight champion.
Bellator’s heavyweight action has often been described with many uncomplimentary adjectives, but new blood will clean out some of the tired competitors of the last several tournaments, for good or ill. In more exciting news, the Middleweight tournament will be wrapping up its semi-finals tonight as well though, with two highly competitive matches that should save even a top-heavy show like this. Bellator MMA CEO Bjorn Rebney has said on many occasions that Bellator would never become a feeder system for the UFC. He’s also stated that only under the right circumstances would Bellator sign fighter’s castoff by the UFC.
It was an odd night in Newark, New Jersey for UFC 159 as the event saw a couple broken body parts and a fighter incorrectly being announced the winner. One of those broken body parts was the left big toe of the UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Despite the nasty looking break the champion entered the record books by successfully defended his title for a record tying fifth time.
A handful of fighter needed the towel to make-weight and only welterweight Nick Catone missed weight for tomorrow’s UFC 159. Catone did not attempt to drop the extra weight so he will be fined 20% of his purse but will still face James head on the preliminary portion of the card.
The UFC will be in Newark, New Jersey this weekend with a UFC 159 fight card that features the light heavyweight champion Jon Jones versus the “People’s Champion” Chael Sonnen for the UFC light heavyweight title. The Ultimate Fighter 17 coaches played nice during the show but returned to hyping the fight (Sonnen) and mean mugging (Jones) as the two will finally step into the cage on Saturday.

Last night the fighters for tonight’s Bellator 100 stepped onto the scales with all 24 fighters making weight. The historic 100th event for Bellator takes places tonight from the Grand Canyon University Arena in Phoenix, Arizona and features an all welterweight main card on Spike TV.

Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.

Amidst everything else going on, the UFC has themselves a busy day today with the UFC on FX 6 taking place in Australia and The Ultimate Fighter 16 finale weigh-ins. All 24 fighters made weight today for tomorrow’s event that will crown The Ultimate Fighter 16 welterweight winner.

SAN JOSE, Cal. – Still recovering from Saturday’s UFC 148, MMAValor.com was inside the HP Pavilion for today’s UFC on FUEL TV 4 weigh-ins. A few of the fighters would need to step onto the scale behind a towel but all 22 fighters on the UFC on FUEL TV 4 fight card made weight.
