Saturday is the UFC on FOX 4 which makes it fight week and as usual UFC President Dana White has put out a Vlog giving the fans behind the scenes footage from the previous event. At last weekends UFC 149, Cheick Kongo once again proved to many MMA fans his place in the Heavyweight division with a lack luster decision over Shawn Jordan. In what seemed like a motionless clinch against the cage, Kongo and Jordan did very little to show the world why Heavyweights are normally exciting and failed to get off any major striking exchanges in a drawn out 15 minute tussle.
This weekend was dominated by the UFC 149 fight card in Calgary and whether you liked it or not the event generated a lot of buzz in the MMA world. But that’s not the only thing going on in MMA this week. Friday night saw more Bellator summer series action with Bellator 72 and next weekend will be the Invicta FC 2 fight card.
Taking away from Dana White’s feelings about UFC 149′s performance for the masses, two fighters went in opposite directions from one another after their co-main and main event performances.
In the lead up to last night’s UFC 149 in Calgary, all the talk was of the two headliners entering their bouts riding long unbeaten streaks. Renan Barao was on a 28 fight unbeaten streak that included 18 in a row, while Hector Lombard was unbeaten in 25 straight with 20 wins in a row. No one was talking about the former MFC light heavyweight champion Ryan Jimmo who was making his Octagon debut at UFC 149 on a 16 fight winning streak.
Tonight UFC 149 was one of those nights; some will call it an off-night while others will refer to it as crap. While the final four fights couldn’t live up to the rest of the card, UFC 149 did have its moments and a few of the fighters were rewarded for them.
