A few crushing KOs, a hail mary submission and another split decision for Benson Henderson made UFC on FOX 10 painful for some, but a quality show just the same. As always some fighters shined, while others found themselves further away from title contention.
Last week the UFC introduced the latest version of their long running MMA reality series with debut of TUF Nations: Canada vs. Australia. From a cool looking log cabin in the middle of nowhere (somewhere in Canada), the eight welterweights and eight middleweights met the coaches and began their journey.
If a friend asked you, an avid MMA fan, to describe the World Series of Fighting, what would you say? Honestly, a little over one year into the promotion’s existence, I have no idea what I tell them. And I’m not so sure the brass at World Series of Fighting would know what to say either. Pretty soon though, that uncertainty is going to become a problem. Lofty goals mixed with some financial backing can garner results for some time; but lacking a solid value proposition and true identity is a surefire way to ensure your downfall. Differentiation is vital in a saturated marketplace.

Tonight’s UFC Fight Night 35 was a decent night of scraps. We saw a pile of decisions, a few decisive finishes, and a whole mess of Middleweights.
In the ever evolving consumer landscape, the UFC saw fit to offer a package, Fight Pass, which would serve as ancillary income to their bottom line. Two other contributing factors helped to push this offering to the forefront.
The MMA community was hit with some shocking and extremely sad news today as the husband and longtime coach for the UFC women’s bantamweight Cat Zingano past away last night. Mauricio Zingano, who was just 37, passed away Monday night at his home in Westminster, Colorado.
This Wednesday the UFC heads to Duluth, Georgia from the UFC Fight Night 35. A quick glance at the card might have you shrugging your shoulders a bit, but you might rethink that notion after you hear this.
