Today's Random MMA Thoughts
Yesterday was Halloween and the MMA world didn’t take a break to go trick or treat. They did dress up as a monster and scare us all with the news they released.
Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort will not happen at UFC 108 – Silva’s surgically repaired elbow is not ready yet and the on again off again fight is again off. Silva last defended his belt in April against Thales Leites where he won a unanimous decision. He is likely not going to be ready to fight until march of 2010, making it almost a year since he would have defended the title. I’d like to see Vitor Belfort, Dan Henderson (if resigns) or Nate Marquardt fight at UFC 108 for an interim belt. The winner can fight Anderson Silva when he’s ready to unify the middleweight belt.
Lyoto Machida needs hand surgeryand the immediate remake is off – Machida will need hand surgery so a quick turn around for a remake with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will not be so quick. This is really unfortunate for the fans following the very controversial decision at last weeks UFC 104.
Jon Fitch has a new opponent, again- For the third time now Jon Fitch has a new opponent in his next fight. It was originally suppose to be Ricardo Almeida who injured his knee. Fitch was then set to rematch with Thaigo Alves who Fitch defeated by TKO in June of 2006. Alves has now withdrawn from the fight due a small tear in his knee. So Fitch is now set to face Mike Pierce at UFC 107 and lets hope that Pierce protects his knee from the Fitch curse.
Kimbo slice will fight at the Ultimate fighter finale – Despite losing to Roy Nelson in the third episode Kimbo Slice will still fight in the Finale. Slice will take on Houston Alexander Dec. 5th at a catchweight of 215lbs. Should be a really good fight where someone is going to get knocked out. It’s clear the UFC is positioning Slice in a favorable situation for him to win thus staying in the UFC.
