With Another Win at UFC 128 Jim Miller Deserves a Title Shot

The UFC’s lightweight division is filled with more talent than ever before and Jim Miller is at the forefront of it. With his win over Kamal Shalorus at UFC 128, Miller made a huge statement proving that he is ready for a shot at a title, and there isn’t anyone disagreeing.

Both fighters put on an entertaining fight for the New Jersey crowd, but the hometown favorite came out the victor. Miller dominated the fight in every aspect. While on the feet, his stand-up kept pressure on Shalorus, who didn’t have an answer for what Miller was throwing at him. Even on the ground, the New Jersey native stayed busy with submission attempts and strikes.

Close to the midway point of the third round, Miller caught Shalorus with a powerful left uppercut followed by knee that sent him falling to the mat. Miller immediately swarmed on him and finished the fight with a barrage of punches. The win kept his streak alive and could possibly move him into title contention.

“That’s seven in a row,” Miller said following the win. “That’s seven in a row in arguably the toughest division in the UFC.”

It’s time for Miller to get his shot at the title or a fight against a top five opponent. He has more than earned it. Should the Edgar/Maynard and Guida/Pettis matchups go according to plan, it’s possible that Miller could be fighting for the title by the end of 2011 or early 2012.
