In the middle of a marathon stretch of MMA, the UFC hit up Brazil with a card full of unknowns. Even if I couldn’t tell the Silvas from the Souzas from the Silverios, there were a few guys who caught my eye, for better or worse. Here’s where my mind was at during a ho-hum evening of combat.
The UFC is once again raking up the frequent flyer miles as they return to Brazil for tomorrows UFC Fight Night 28. If you’re thinking to yourself didn’t we just do this, the answer would be yes because UFC Fight Night 28 is the third UFC event in the last seven days.
The third UFC event in a week (UFC Fight Night 28) will take us down to Brazil, for a card that has suffered greatly from injuries to be something only a native would recognize. The main event is still intact however, as Glover Teixeira looks to continue his march to a title shot, taking on Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader. We also have a compelling co-main in the middleweight division, as Yushin Okami faces former Strikeforce champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a division shaping match-up.
A lapse in judgment and a well-timed punch have altered not only this month’s fighter rankings but the top of the pound for pound ranks as well.
With Bellator still on summer vacation it was up to the UFC and its fighters to potentially alter this month’s MMA fighter rankings. Since the last rankings came out there were three UFC events resulting in two new fighters breaking into their divisions top 5.
