Just a week removed from one of the best fight cards of the year the UFC head’s to the UK for UFC Fight Night 30. Original the UK’s favorite fighter Michael Bisping was set to headline opposite Mark Munoz but an eye injury removed the Count and in stepped former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
With all the problems and criticism Dana White and the UFC have had over the last couple of months, a heavily stacked fight card is needed to boost up fan morale and with UFC 152, White helps to do just that. The main event between Jon Jones and Vitor Belfort should be a highly entertaining battle of skill, but don’t let the main event’s hype distract you from an interesting match in the preliminaries on FX between Marcus Brimage and Jimy Hettes.
In the wake of the disaster that was UFC 151, the UFC will look to rebound with a stellar card, featuring two title fights and several potential number one contender bouts at UFC 152. Jon Jones will be the star of the show, though his star is certainly tarnished as of late, as he takes on the always game Vitor Belfort. Also, we’ll close out the UFC Flyweight tournament, as Joseph Benavidez takes on Demetrious Johnson to crown the first ever UFC Flyweight Champion.
Two of the UFC’s young guns in the Featherweight division have signed on to meet one another at UFC on FX 4 as Jimy “The Kid” Hettes and Steven Siler will take on one another on the June 22nd card.
And then it was over….. The great year in Mixed Martial Arts that was 2011 is now in the books, making way for 2012. The final UFC event of 2011 was a card packed with unexpected outcomes and fighters elevating their stock heading into the New Year. Of course with the good there also are the bad and those fighters whose stock fell following UFC 141.
It might be time for the young man from Swoyersville, Pennsylvania to change his nickname as Jim “The Kid” Hettes racked up another victory at UFC 141, beating veteran Nam Phan via decision.
The final UFC of the 2011 year is taking place tonight from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with UFC 141. Headlined by a heavyweight fight between the former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar against the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem. Tonight’s preliminary action can be seen on Facebook and Spike TV, while the main event will air on PPV.
Today is the day, UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem to end the 2011 year with a BANG! The year has been great to not only the UFC but MMA overall and on the day before New Year’s Eve fans are treated to a solid card headlined by the two massive heavyweights. The winner of the main event will most likely be the next in line for the new UFC heavyweight champion, Junior Dos Santos.
