WEC 53: Will Kerr and Danny Castillo Looking to hang in Lightweight Division

This Thursday Connecticut’s Will Kerr (9-2 MMA, 1-1 WEC) will meet Team Alpha Male’s Danny Castillo (9-3 MMA, 4-3 WEC) at WEC 53 at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona on December 16. Their fight will be part of the nights undercard on this heavily stacked card that will close out the promotion.

WEC 47 Predictions

The WEC rolls into Columbus, Ohio tomorrow with another solid fight card. I think I say that for ever WEC card but its the truth the card is a good card with a title fight and a couple former champs too. If you aren’t lucky enough to watch the fights live they can be seen on Versus starting at 6pm PT. The main event will feature the WEC Bantamweight Champion Brian Bowles against Dominick Cruz. The co-main event will see former Bantamweight champ Miguel Torres take on Joseph Benavidez in what could be a #1 contenders match. The card will feature 11 fights, here are my predictions & please feel free to leave yours in the comments.

Aldo just to quick, wins title

WEC 44 is now in the books and the featherweight division has a new champion. In Mike Browns third title defense he had no real answer for the much quicker Jose Aldo. Brown was able to get Aldo up against the cage in round one and landed some nice knees to the legs of Aldo but Brown was not able to get the takedown. Aldo comes out swinging in round two, Brown slipped and went to the ground where Aldo wouldn’t let him up. brown rolls to try and get away and give up his back where Aldo takes his back, flattens him out and punishes him until the ref. stops the fight. Jose Aldo wins and is the new WEC Featherweight champion of the world. (Jose Aldo wins KO of the Night – $10,000)

In other action from the night:

• Manny Gamburyan defeated Leonard Garcia by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

• Karen Darabedyan defeated Rob McCullough by  Split Decision (30-27, 27-30, 29-28) – How does one judge score it that off? WTF

• Shane Roller defeated Danny Castillo by Rear Naked choke in the 3rd round (Shane Roller wins Submission of the night – $10,000)

• Kamal Shalorus defeated Will Kerr by Ref. stoppage (TKO) in the 1st round
