The Challenge: Training MMA at the Den Update 4

Welcome back to The Challenge. I have now been taking kickboxing classes for two and a half weeks and the biggest difference is definitely the cardio. Striking really is more intense than grappling in terms of cardio. There are many positions in grappling where you can rest, but this is not true in Muay Thai. I have never tried a sport where the actions are more foreign to me than kickboxing. None of the motions or movements I’ve learned in 20 years of soccer and multiple seasons of baseball and wrestling have even slightly prepared me for this. The footwork, body position and hand placement is so precise. Not really one of my strong points.

United Glory World Series Complete Recap

United Glory put on an action packed show to kick off its first Kickboxing and MMA World Series in Europe.  The first event took place at the Passenger Terminal in Amsterdam on Saturday Oct. 16th and is to be followed by two more events – the semi-finals in February 2011 in Belgium and finals in April 2011 in the Netherlands.  The World Series is a combination of two separate tournaments for MMA and Kickboxing. 

Jason David Frank wins & calls out Jean Claude Van Damme

Friday night the former power ranger moved his MMA record to 2-0 by defeating Chris Rose at Lonestar Beatdown: Dallas. Frank looked more comfortable inside that cage in his second professional fight. He relied heavily on his muay thai skills to punish Rose with knees throughout the short fight. Frank Knocked down Rose minutes into the first with a flurry of punches and kicks. Frank moved in for some ground and pound and the ref had to step in and end the fight.
