The main event for the UFC on Fuel TV 1 event was awesome, and one that left MMA fans wanting more. Jake Ellenberger showed signs of absolute brilliance in the first two rounds of his fight against Diego Sanchez on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t until the last half of the 3rd round that the contest got very interesting. Diego Sanchez showed the heart of a lion, and came back to dominate the last round of a fight that lesser competitors would have given up, had they been put in as precarious of positions that Sanchez was put in during the first two rounds, or to accept the damage sustained by Ellenberger’s razor sharp strikes, and still choose to move forward attempting victory.

Jamie Varner vs. Drew Fickett set to Headline XFC 16: High Stakes

Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner will make his first appearance of 2012 on February 10th as half of the XFC 16: High Stakes main event. His opponent standing across from him will be the veteran of over 50 fights, Drew Fickett.

This weekend UFC 138 marks an important change in UFC history, for the first time ever all main event fights will be able to go into deep water and be five rounds. This is a perfect example of both fans and fighters getting their chance for more exciting fights to continue on. The UFC has crammed a free on TV fight card with many newly signed prospects and two seasoned vets to drive the fights into the history books. Mark Munoz will meet Chris Leben in the first five round non title fight, but don’t expect it to fill its allotted slot.

September 7, 2011 Nick Diaz is a no-show for his second consecutive UFC 137 Main Event presser opposite Georges St. Pierre. He’s quickly punished during said presser and removed from the night’s Main Event / title shot. A brand spanking new event trailer featuring St. Pierre and his new challenger, Carlos Condit, is rolled out to applause during the “beauty pageant” and Nick Diaz is later matched up in the co-main event with B.J. Penn on the very same card.
