Things ramped up in the world of Mixed Martial Arts in September. Along with two UFC events, Bellator kicked off its fifth season with three events, Strikeforce held two and BAMMA had one. The action will continue at this feverish pace until the calendar turns over a new year.

After the month of July offered little movement in the rankings, August saw several fighters in the top five put their record on the line. The action resulted in four fighters moving down in the ranking, two of them fell completely out of the top five. Conversely, two fighters moved up in the ranks while two fighters “knocking on the door” got called up to the top five.

The calendar has changed from July to August and for MMA fans it couldn’t have come fast enough. As far as MMA action, July was a slow month compared to the multiple high-profile events of June and August. Away from the action it wasn’t any better as multiples injuries ravaged upcoming cards and Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem was removed from the grand prix and later released entirely.

June was a month to remember for Mixed Martial Arts fans as every single weekend was jam-packed with loads of televised events. Starting back on May 27th, there has been six weeks in a row with Major MMA action on TV, culminating with last weekends UFC 132.

The month of May has been quiet for the fighters on the rankings, unfortunately causing little movement amongst the divisions. Only three fights on the May rankings stepped into the cage last month, walking away with a 2-1 record.

The month of April only saw two major events between the UFC and Strikeforce, even Bellator took a weekend off during the month. With the lack of action there wasn’t much movement in the rankings as only six fighters in the rankings fought last month.
