All 20 fighters made weight today for Saturday’s Bellator 66 which takes place inside the I-X Center Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Thankfully the fighters made stepping onto the scale uneventful, but that didn’t mean their stare downs didn’t get a little interesting.
April will be a month that quiets the spoiled MMA fans who have been whining vicariously through twitter and the forums about not having jam-packed weeks of Mixed Martial Arts goodness. The long absence of Saturday’s without a UFC event will end with two events in the month of April. Between the return of the UFC and the continuation of Bellator’s sixth season there are several top fights to choose from in April.
As UFC 141 concluded it is then time for the yearend spectacle that is the Dream: New Year! 2011. From the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan and broadcasting live on HDNet Dream: New Year! 2011 offered up a jam-packed card with a wide assortment of combat sports.
What I’ve done in my years of writing is make a yearly list of fights between “Top Ten” fighters and lesser known or much less regarded fighters. This is a bit of fun match-making to illustrate the fruitless quest for accurate Top Ten lists and to show exactly how much styles play into combat sports.
If you stayed up late last night / early this morning to watch DREAM 17 you saw another solid yet long Japanese Mixed Martial Arts event. The card saw the opening round of the eight man bantamweight tournament along with many of the top JMMA competitors.
When you think of out of this world submissions in MMA one of the first on the list is the gogoplata which became famous from fighters like Shinya Aoki and Nick Diaz both landing then in MMA fights.
News out of Jamie Varner’s management team yesterday had Varner fighting Shinya Aoki at Dream 17 on May 29th in Japan. The release though seems a bit pre-mature as Varner’s camp and Aoki’s camp still have details that need to be hammered out.
This past Saturday, everyone’s favorite noodle-legged grappler returned to the cage and erased whatever bad taste was left over from his ill-fated New Years Eve Exhibition. Shinya Aoki stopped Lyle Beerbohm with a brutal neck crank a little over a minute into their bout; marking his first win under the Strikeforce bannner and his 27th win overall.

Due to a previously scheduled Arena Football game at the HP Pavilion, today’s UFC on FOX 7 weigh-ins were held less than a mile away at the California Theater. The small theater was completely filled with cheering fans and all the fighters they came to see made weight.

Amidst everything else going on, the UFC has themselves a busy day today with the UFC on FX 6 taking place in Australia and The Ultimate Fighter 16 finale weigh-ins. All 24 fighters made weight today for tomorrow’s event that will crown The Ultimate Fighter 16 welterweight winner.
UFC on FUEL TV 4 Weigh-in Results and Photos
SAN JOSE, Cal. – Still recovering from Saturday’s UFC 148, MMAValor.com was inside the HP Pavilion for today’s UFC on FUEL TV 4 weigh-ins. A few of the fighters would need to step onto the scale behind a towel but all 22 fighters on the UFC on FUEL TV 4 fight card made weight.
