KJ Noons: Back on the title track

K.J. Noons (9-2 MMA) is looking to impress the fans and put on a slick show of striking in this weekends upcoming Strikeforce Houston card. Noons is coming off a split decision win over a tough Conor Huen (12-8 MMA) and is itching to add to his highlight reel and make a good name for himself on his way to a possible Diaz Re-match or a shot at the Strikeforce belt. He has yet to finish a fight since his return to MMA from boxing and has been training hard at City Boxing in San Diego.

Strikeforce Houston Main card Breakdown

This Saturday the Toyota Center in Houston, TX will be hosting a great Strikforce card that can be seen free at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime. The night will feature two title fights along with action in the lightweight and heavyweight division.

The first fight of the night is a heavyweight fight between former professional wrestler Bobby Lashley (5-0) and Chad Griggs (8-1). Griggs will have his hands full in his Strikeforce debut against Lashley who has finished 4 out of his last 5 fights in the first round. Griggs is going to come into the bout hoping to pull off an impressive victory over Lashley to get his first win with Strikeforce and make a man for himself.

Strikeforce set to return home October 9 with tournament

Stikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced earlier this week that the promotion would return home to San Jose, California for an October 9th event. The event will be televised on Showtime and will feature the organization’s middleweight grand prix. The event will take place at the HP Pavilion, which last witnessed Fedor vs. Werdum on June 26.

Details of the tournament are still being worked out regarding the format and who will be participating. The format will either be a same-night four man tourney, or an eight man bracket completed over the course of two events. Which direction they go in will likely hinge on the California State Athletic Commission and whether they approve an eight man format.

Bobby Lashley Following in Lesnar’s Footsteps

Former professional wrestler Bobby Lashley is following in the footsteps of UFC Heavyweight Champion, and fellow former pro wrestler, Brock Lesnar by entering the world of cage fighting. But Lashley and Lesnar have far more than that in common. Lashley, like Lesnar, is a former national champion wrestler in college, winning 3 consecutive NAIA titles at Missouri Valley College from 1996 to 1998.
