Tyson Griffin Steps in to Face Takanori Gomi
Originally scheduled to fight Joe Stevenson in August at UFC on Versus 2, Takanori Gomi will now have a new challenge in Tyson Griffin, who has risen to the occasion to replace the injured Stevenson. Both fighters are looking to get back on the winning track after disappointing losses.
Griffin will look to put his recent loss behind him as he takes the fight on about a months notice. Fellow Xtreme Couture fighter Evan Dunham earned the split decision over Griffin this past June.
This will be Gomi’s second fight inside the Octagon. The former Pride Lightweight Champion had an unsuccessful debut against Kenny Florian, who won the fight by rear naked choke.
UFC on Versus 2 is set to air live from the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, Calif. Headlining the card will be Jon “Bones” Jones taking on Vladimir Matyushenko.
