Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin: The Aftermath

It was dubbed the biggest heavyweight fight in history, pitting the two biggest and best heavyweights in the world against each other. Coming in after a yearlong layoff due to illness, many speculated Brock Lesnar to be heavily affected by ring rust.  Along with that, Shane Carwin appeared to be the perfect match for defeating Lesnar.

Predictions on the outcome of the fight were very similar with many believing the fight would not leave the first round and that the winner would do so in devastating fashion.

As the fight began, both fighters took some time to feel each other out, but it was not long before Carwin did what he does best. Carwin landed a vicious uppercut that hurt the champion, who fell to the canvas. Carwin then followed Lesnar to the mat with an onslaught of ground and pound. Lesnar stayed composed though and survived the round.

The second round started and Carwin looked gassed, Lesnar shot in and got the quick takedown. Once there, he was able to lock in an arm triangle, which in time forced Carwin to tap.

With the win, Brock Lesnar is once again the Undisputed UFC Heavyweight Champion and Shane Carwin’s first round finishes proved to be his demise. Lesnar will now face #1 contender Cain Velasquez, who has been awaiting a title shot for quite some time.

Carwin will now take some time off before heading back to the drawing board. A bout between Roy Nelson and Junior Dos Santos will take place at UFC 117 with the winner possibly to face Carwin, while the loser could face Frank Mir.
