Johny Hendricks to Face Paulo Thiago at UFC on Versus 3
A bout between welterweights Johny Hendricks and Paulo Thiago has been targeted for the third UFC event on Versus happening on March 3rd. UFC on Versus 3 takes place at the KFC Yum! Center (yes that’s the real name) in Louisville, Kentucky, and it’s unsure whether the bout will appear on the main card or the nights undercard.
Both fighter are coming off defeats and will look to start 2011 off with a win.
Johny Hendricks (9-1 MMA) was given his first professional loss in his last appearance, when Rick Story did a little more in the judges eyes to grab the decision at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. The narrow defeat ended a six-fight streak between both the WEC and the UFC banners.
Paulo Thiago (13-3) earned early fame with a first-round knockout of highly ranked welterweight Josh Koscheck at UFC 95. He was then brought back down to earth by Jon Fitch, who out pointed him and handed the Brazilian elite special police squad member his first career defeat. Since that fight Thiago was able to won two in a row, but is now on a two fight losing streak and in desperate need of a win.
Ironically Thiago’s last two defeats came at the hands of the two fighters that will be headlining the UFC on Versus 3 card, Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann.
