Add another fighter to the list of Sengoku fighters making the jump to North America, as  former Sengoku Featherweight Champion, Marlon Sandro, has signed with Chicago based Bellator Fighting Championships. Bellator officially announced the signing on Wednesday.

Sandro, a BJJ black belt and Top 10 Featherweight, will make his US debut with the promotion, but will not be a part of the Season 4 Featherweight Tournament, which begins in March.  Sandro, who trains with Team Nova Uniao with current UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, started his professional MMA Career in 2004, winning 14 straight fights before dropping a must decide split-decision to Michihiro Omigawa in Sengoku’s Featherweight Grand Prix Semifinals.

Following the loss, Sandro won three straight fights, including capturing Sengoku’s Featherweight Championship from Masanori Kanehara, before dropping the title to Hatsu Hioki in December of last year.

“Marlon Sandro is a phenomenal talent at 145,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Our Featherweight division is absolutely stacked and Sandro pushes that talent pool to an even higher level, I’m thrilled to have him on board.”

Sandro, joins Jorge Santiago, who recently signed with the UFC to compete in its middleweight division, as well as a slew of others who have jumped ship from Sengoku after the promotion hit financial troubles. No exact date has been set for Sandro’s US and Bellator debut.
