Spike TV to Telecast Two UFC 129 Preliminary Bouts
A pair of welterweight bouts will air on Spike TV one hour before UFC 129 that will lead into the Live Pay-Per-View. The two preliminary bouts will feature Nate Diaz (13-6) vs. Rory MacDonald (10-1) and Sean Pierson (11-4) vs. Jake Ellenberger (24-5) and will start at 8pm ET / 5pm PT. Note that the time change for the Spike TV telecast is one hour earlier because starting with UFC 129 the PPV start time will be at 9pm ET / 6pm PT.
Nate Diaz and Rory MacDonald are both coming off losses in their last bouts and will be looking to avoid losing two in a row. Both fighters are similar in size, have a background in BJJ and Boxing and have fought at both lightweight and welterweight. Diaz though has been fighting a much higher level of competition then MacDonald having been in the UFC since 2007 where he has gone 8-4. The Ultimate Fighter season five champion will have his hands full with the rising star, MacDonald, who is fighting in front of a partisan Canadian crowd.
Jake Ellenberger is riding a three fight winning streak and is stepping in on just two weeks notice to face the Canadian Sean Pierson. Brian Foster was originally scheduled to face Pierson but was forced off the card when an MRI discovered a Brain Hemorrhage. Pierson is 1-0 in the UFC and is on an impressive six fight winning streak himself. Someone’s streak will be coming to an end live on Spike TV though.
UFC 129: St- Pierre vs. Shields airs Saturday, April 30th from the sold out Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario. In front of a record-setting attendance the night will be headlined by the welterweight champion, fan favourite and Canadian Georges St-Pierre defending his title against former Strikeforce and EliteXC champion Jake Shields.
