Ben Henderson vs. Mark Bocek By The Odds

One of the biggest MMA cards to date in UFC 129 goes down this Saturday in Canada with some great fights both on the main and preliminary cards. Ben Henderson looks to rebound from his loss at the WEC final card, while Mark Bocek looks to continue his winning ways. The sports’ betting world has Bocek as the +115 underdog while Henderson is the -145 favorite.

While the odds might seem a little off from reality, you can expect this to be a very good fight. Both fighters are listed as 5’9 but Bocek will have a 5 inch reach advantage. Henderson has shown better striking than Bocek in the WEC against lesser opponents, but then again WEC fighters are 6-1 against UFC alumni. The reach advantage will serve well in the short end but if this fight stays standing the edge has to go to Henderson, and the nod would most likely as well due to speed, and footwork. Both poses black belts in Martial arts; Bocek in Kempo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Henderson in Taekwondo, with a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Henderson will have the wrestling advantage but may want to stay standing until sweat makes the submission game of Bocek diluted.

Bocek is dangerous on the ground, having just come off a submission of the night victory over Dustin Hazelett, who many considered one of the best Jiu Jitsu guys inside of the UFC before the fight. Overall the fight is very evenly matched so the odds seem, well odd, but there is a slightly enticing draw to placing money on Bocek due to his current wins over a top UFC grappler.

However it plays out the fans of MMA and all areas of the fight game are in for a real treat. This should not be a fight you miss this weekend and look for it to be a UFC 129 fight of the night candidate.
