Jamie Varner vs. Shinya Aoki Rumored for Dream 17
News out of Jamie Varner’s management team yesterday had Varner fighting Shinya Aoki at Dream 17 on May 29th in Japan. The release though seems a bit pre-mature as Varner’s camp and Aoki’s camp still have details that need to be hammered out.
“KO Reps is still working on me facing Aoki, but there are details that need to be agreed on,” Varner said via text message.
He would later tweet this out confirming what he had texted earlier.
“Idk anything about the aoki fight yet. It was presented to me but there R things that need to get figured out. @ko_reps is working on it!”
The rumored item of concern for Varner and his camp is weight, even though he’s scheduled to fight under the XFO Banner next weekend against Tyler Combs at lightweight. With the event just weeks away negotiations will need to move quickly if Varner is to be the one standing across from Aoki.
Varner says that this fight will not pull him out of his upcoming fight with Tyler Combs, so barring any major injuries we as fans should expect two quick fights from Varner on his road back to the UFC.
Aoki was originally schedule to face Antonio McKee but that bout now appears to be falling a part due to visa issues by McKee.
The only things we know for sure right now is Shinya Aoki will be fighting at Dream 17, who his opponent will be is still up in the air.
