When Jacob Volkmann (12-2) left the Octagon following his split decision win over Antonio McKee at UFC 125, nobody could have expected what was about to happen. The Minnesota based fighter had just scored his second win with the UFC to improve his record to 2-2 with the promotion.
You would think he’d be happy, yet Volkmann had something to say. In a post fight interview with MMAFighting.com Volkmann stated that he wanted to fight the President of the United Stated, Barack Obama. Disagreeing with his policies on healthcare, Volkmann took it one step further by saying, “someone’s gotta knock some sense into that idiot.”
The comments earned Volkmann a surprise visit from the Secret Service at the high School where Volkmann coaches wrestling at in Minnesota.
The displeasure Volkmann has for the Presidents healthcare policies aren’t just some random political stance though. When not stepping into the cage to fight Volkmann is a chiropractor, dealing with the healthcare industry and its red tape daily.
Volkmann’s win over McKee was over four months ago and there has been no word from the UFC about him stepping back into the Octagon anytime soon. Has his political stance caused the UFC to brush him to the side, punishment for voicing his opinion?
Hard to think his comments haven’t at least made the UFC think twice when his name comes up as they begin putting a fight card together. Not knowing what Volkmann will say next has got to concern Dana White, especially when it appears he has more to say.
In an article written at MMAJunkie.com Volkmann doesn’t plan to shut up and should the opportunity arise again to voice his opinion, he’ll take it.
The UFC lightweight already has planned his next post-fight speech, rehearsed it, then come up with variations depending on the questions of commentator Joe Rogan. Every one of them takes the president to task.
Factor in the above mentioned plus the simple fact that the UFC has around 50 lightweight fighters currently on their roster and its clear that Jacob Volkmann has been gently brushed to the side.
I’m not sure that fight fans have much interest in a guy who blames his business failures on the President of the United States. Many MMA fans don’t like whining and excuses and prefer people who take responsibility for themselves.

@MrJM I agree man. Fans don’t want to hear his political views. Looks like he got himself a fight now though. LOL
