Bobby Lashley Gets first Title Shot at Shark Fights 21

Not everyone can hope to attain the same level of success in Mixed Martial Arts that former WWE superstar Brock Lesnar has accomplished. Following the lead of Lesnar was another former professional wrestler turned MMA fighter Bobby Lashley. Lesnar’s presence in MMA appears to be the exception and not the rule when targeting goals within the sport of MMA. Even though Brock’s credibility was questioned at the beginning of his career because of his association with sports entertainment leader the WWE, his legitimate Division 1A wrestling experience which includes a national championship proved to be his ace in the hole as he captured the UFC Heavyweight championship and has been at the front of the pack when it comes to pay-per-view numbers in the UFC.

Lashley seemed to take a different route in attempting to achieve success in MMA by choosing to compete in smaller or lesser known organizations than the UFC. It can most likely also be argued that Lashley was not approached by any of the major federations as Lesnar initially was. Lashley has a respectable record of 6-1 with all of his victories being equally spread between KO’s, submissions, and decisions. The real question about Bobby would be the quality of his opposition.

Whereas Brock has fought the best that Heavyweight MMA has to offer, Lashley has yet to face the same level of competition that Lesnar has. Bobby trains with great teams like American Top Team and American Kickboxing Academy and is now set to fight for his first title when he faces off against Darrill Schoonover for the Shark Fights Heavyweight championship at Shark Fights 21 on November 11th.

Let’s face it, Lashley is a beast and also has collegiate wrestling experience, so if he keeps his head on straight and continues to evolve and grow with the sport of MMA he may very well be someone to keep an eye on in the near future. Not because of his past association with WWE but because he actually became a relevant Mixed Martial Artist. With all of the champions that started out as wrestlers in the MMA world now, it’s becoming a lot more evident that high level wrestling experience is one of the best, if not the best foundation from which to build your MMA skill-set upon.
