News and Notes from Bellator 63
After the dust had settled on a night full of knockouts and submissions Bellator held a brief post fight press conference. The most newsworthy information coming from the presser was the announcement of the welterweight semifinals to be held May 4th in Ontario, Canada at Bellator 67.
Karl “Psycho” Amoussou will square off against David Rickels who opened up a lot of eyes after his 22 second knockout of Jordan Smith. In the other semifinal bout, Ben “The Killa B” Saunders meets Bryan “The Beast” Baker.
Now onto notes from the post fight press conference
- Amoussou was asked if he had injured his leg during the fight but he assured everyone it was nothing serious and would be back in the gym training on Monday.
- Bryan Baker talked about his move to 170 and felt his “body fatigue out” on him and is still in the process of getting accustomed to the cut.
- When Bjorn was asked which of the undercard fighters would be the most likely to be in a tournament he immediately pointed to Andrey Koreshkov and said, “there’s a very high likely hood at some point in the 170 tournament knocking people out”. Koreshkov will most likely fight again by the summer before he decides when he wants to enter the welterweight tournament as they move over to Spike TV.
- Rebney assured everyone that we would see Raul Amaya back in the Bellator cage once he was healed and came away impressed with the fighter who showed a ton of heart in his fight against Saunders.
- Bjorn also indicated we would see Carlos Pereira again saying his performance did not show what he had seen him do in Brazil.
There you have it folk. The press conference was brief and all of the winners were in high spirits (as expected). Don’t forget to tune into MTV 2 next week at 8pm EST as Bellator returns with featherweight and bantamweight tournament fights headlined by Ben Askren defending his welterweight title against Douglas Lima.
