Attila Vegh shocks Travis Wiuff at Bellator 73

The Bellator summer series light heavyweight tournament came to an explosive conclusion at tonight’s Bellator 73. Travis Wiuff and Attila Vegh took different routes through the tournament field but meet in the finals with the same goal in mind, the Bellator light heavyweight title.

Travis Wiuff came into the tournament on a mission, a mission to fight the Bellator light heavyweight champion Christian M’Pumbu again. Wiuff defeated the champion back at Bellator 55 in a non-title fight bout and was completely focused on getting “his” title from M’Pumba. He destroyed Chris Davis to open the tournament, dominated Tim Carpenter in the semifinal round and now only Vegh was remaining in his way.

Attila Vegh squeaked into the final with a controversial split decision victory over Emanuel Newton in the semifinals after submitting Zelg Galesic in the opening round of the tournament. The Hungarian striker hadn’t displayed the much talked about power thus far in Bellator, but that was soon going to change.

Wiuff stormed forward to open the fight but Vegh held his ground. The two let their hands go early and sent a clear message to the fans to not blink. Those that did blink missed an overhand right from Vegh that landed behind the left ear of Wiuff and sent the “Diesel” crumbling. After some cleanup work on the ground Wiuff was left wondering what had happened as Vegh celebrated inside the Bellator cage. The fight would only last 25 seconds and the underdog Attila Vegh earns the opportunity to face Christian M’Pumbu for the Bellator light heavyweight champion at a later date.
