StrikeforceToday Strikeforce announced their plans for a major fight card planned for January of 2013. On a side note, the promotion also announced that their November 3rd fight card in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma would be canceled due to injuries to Frank Mir and Luke Rockhold. But hey look on the bright side, at least there will be an event in January.

“Due to a series of injuries, we were forced to cancel the upcoming card on Nov. 3, but are already working to put together a stacked card in January,” said STRIKEFORCE CEO Scott Coker.

The cancellation of the November event is the second consecutive event the fledgling promotion has canceled. After Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez withdrew from his main event fight with Pat Healy, Showtime decided not to air the card and Strikeforce ended up just canceling the September 29th card that was set to take place in Sacramento, California.

Like the September event, injuries forced headliners Frank Mir and Luke Rockhold off the card which resulted in the cancellation. Mir was supposed to face Daniel Cormier in the final Strikeforce heavyweight bout, while Rockhold was to defend his middleweight crown against Lorenz Larkin.

Whether or not the fights or fighters on both the September and November canceled card will appear on the planned “stacked” card in January is unclear. The Lorenz Larkin camp released a statement to MMAVAlor.com following the announcement of the canceled event and the upcoming January card, saying “We are waiting on word from Strikeforce about the January card. We would hope that we can continue on our path for the middle weight championship by fighting Luke Rockhold in January. As always we will continue to train and work on Lorenz’s overall game. We will not stop till we have that belt.”

According to Strikeforce, further information on the fight card and location will be announced shortly. Refunds for tickets purchased for the November 3rd Strikeforce card are available at the point of sale
