Rally for Mark HuntIt didn’t work the first time around, but the rally for Mark Hunt scored a win on try number two. Fans of the “Super Samoan” will finally get their wish when Hunt takes on the former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC 160.

The twitter hash tag debuted about a year ago when Alistair Overeem failed his pre UFC 146 drug test and was removed from his title fight with Junior Dos Santos. Hunt was already on the fight card and offered to step in to face the champ. At that moment the #rallyformarkhunt was born and twitter went crazy until UFC president Dana White shot down the notion of Dos Santos versus Hunt.

Mark Hunt ended up not facing Stefan Struve at UFC 146 due to injury but the two-faced each other earlier this month at the UFC on FUEL TV 8. In the co-main event, Hunt won his fourth consecutive fight by knocking out Struve and breaking his jaw in the process.

Days after the big win the MMA world got a little case of déjà vu days when Alistair Overeem withdrew from his second scheduled bout with Junior Dos Santos at next month’s UFC 160. Right away Mark Hunt threw his name out there to step in on short notice and face Dos Santos, the #rallyformarkhunt was on once again.

This time Dana White was open to the idea and after the two worked out a few things, Mark Hunt finally got his fight with Junior Dos Santos. Score one for the Rally goers whose persistent twitter hashtag helped the “Super Samoan” get the biggest MMA fight of his career.

UFC 160 will take place on May 25th in Las Vegas, Nevada and features a main event between UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez against Antonio Silva……….. It’s déjà vu all over again!
