Can Demian Maia get back into the title mix?

Demian Maia (12-2) has fought some tough battles to get him where he is today. Maia’s last fight didn’t go the way he had hoped for at UFC 112. The fight took place in Abu Dhabi where Maia faced Anderson Silva (26-4) in the main event of the night for his shot at the middleweight title.

Maia was offered the fight with Silva due to a shoulder injury that Vitor Belfort had received in training, causing Belfort to pull from the fight. Maia went into this fight confident and counting on his Jiu Jitsu against Silva’s grappling and knockout power. After being mocked, the first two rounds of the fight, Maia came out being aggressive in the third and took the fight the distance, Silva ultimately won by unanimous decision.
