With three weeks having gone by since the final Strikeforce card of the year and preparations being made for the first event of the New Year, it’s safe to say that Scott Coker has had his fair share of ups and downs. From the debut of acquisition and debut of Ryan Couture, son of MMA Legend Randy Couture, to the return of Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, to the infamous “Nashville Brawl”; Strikeforce has been all over the spectrum this year.

Why the victory by Fabricio Werdum shouldn’t surprise us

Following the last nights upset victory by Fabricio Werdum (14-4-1) over Fedor Emelianenko (31-2) the world was stunned. The man who hadn’t seen defeat in almost ten years, winning 27 fights in a row with one no contest during that stretch. According to the betting lines Fedor was a heavy favorite at (-) 800 and Werdum by most wasn’t given a chance.

What an amazing night of fights capped off with the stunner most didn’t think possible, Fedor tapped out. The complete card from top to bottom was outstanding with many memorable moments. Several of the fighters returned after their fights for the post fight press conference to address their fight.

Tonight we are here live at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California for the Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum event. The night will be capped off with the main event between Fedor and Fabricio Werdum but the rest of the main card is stacked.  

Undercard fights start at 5pm PT and they go live on Showtime at 7pm PT with the main card.

The biggest weigh-ins for Strikeforce was held today inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The arena was electric and there had to be a couple of hundred fans in the house waiting to see their favorite fighters. Several of the fighters train in the San Jose area like Cung Le and Josh Thomson and they got some big time cheers. Throw in the top men’s and women’s MMA fighters in Fedor and Cyborg Santos and you can see why the fans turned out.
