The welterweight clash between the quick rising Rory MacDonald and the UFC legend BJ Penn will not be happening at next month’s UFC 152 in Toronto, Canada. As last night’s UFC on FOX 4 main event was getting set to start, UFC President Dana White learned that MacDonald had suffered a major cut above his right eye during training and would not be medically cleared to fight on September 22nd.

If everything had gone to plan, the UFC would have GSP on the mend, Carlos Condit and Jake Ellenberger meeting for the interim title and a pecking order of two or three fighters behind them. However, some well-placed knees by Martin Kampmann changed all of that. Now the UFC has an interesting issue, too many qualified contenders. Not the worst problem to have, unless you’re a fighter on the list waiting your turn.

He may be known as “beautiful” but Gloucester, England welterweight fighter Che ‘Beautiful’ Mills returns to the cage at UFC 145 this weekend with MMA fans knowing there is more to this man than just looks. Roll the clock back to November 5th 2011 and UFC 138 where Mills took on and destroyed San Diego brawler Chris Cope in just under 40 seconds of the first round of his UFC debut. Talking ahead of that fight, Mills admitted he was “living his dream” and with only four defeats out of nineteen bouts, you wouldn’t bet against the British battler this weekend.
