Brendan Schaub Looks to Defeat a Legend at UFC 128
Since becoming the runner-up on The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights, Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub has been nothing but impressive. He is the type of fighter that continues to get better with every fight. Next up for the Greg Jackson trained fighter is the legendary striker Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 128 this weekend.
Schaub (7-1) has been impressive in his last three bouts, after getting knocked out by Roy Nelson in the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 10. At UFC Live Schaub came back strong with a 47 second TKO win over Chase Gormley in front of his hometown fans in Bloomfield, Colorado. Schaub then followed up with another first round TKO finish against Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 116, needing only 67 seconds this time. His biggest win to date was his last time out when he scored a unanimous decision win over former heavyweight contender Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 121.
Cro Cop (27-8-2, 1 NC) has had a roller coaster ride over the years within the UFC. In his most recent stint with the promotion, he has gone 3-2. In his last bout, Cro Cop took on Frank Mir in a lackluster main event that ended with a bang as Mir landed a knee flush to Cro Cop’s head that left him unconscious on the canvas.
Both men have their respective views on this bout. Schaub is looking to add another big win to his streak and shoot himself into the heavyweight title mix. Cro Cop on the other hand is out to silence another young prospect, just as he did to Pat Barry.
UFC 128 takes place March 19 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Headlining the card will be Light Heavyweight Champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua taking on Jon Jones.
