The calendar has turned to April which means MMA fans survived the month-long absence of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Despite some great action from Bellator to fill the void, the action of March did little to the April ranks.

The flyweight bout between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson at the UFC on FX 2 is one of the most controversial moments in MMA so far 2012. The first fight in the UFC Flyweight Tournament Semi Finals, seemed to be exactly what the UFC expected during the course of the fight, as the organization preemptively promoted the newest weight class as potentially the most action packed division in the UFC. The contest was rapidly paced, and McCall and Johnson went back and forth until the 3rd round, where “Uncle Creepy” seemingly took over, and started to dominate Johnson for the remainder of the bout.

Last month’s rankings saw little movement within the ranks but that was more than made up for this by all the movement this month. The March MMA fighter rankings saw two new fighters crowned #1, two fighters move up into the #2 spot and a total of 16 changes overall.

Headlining the even will be Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann. Both fighters are coming off big wins and will look to continue thier streak and get another step closer to a shot at the UFC Welterweight Championship.

The UFC will also kick off it’s Flyweight tournament as Joseph Benavidez takes on Yasuhiro Urushitani and Demetrious Johnson takes on Ian McCall. The winners will face off at later date to crown the UFC’s first ever Flyweight champion.
