Scott Coker Announces March 3rd Strikeforce Card [Video]

The next Strikeforce card had been rumored to be on March 3rd but during the Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine main card Scott Coker made it official. Coker would re-announce the event date and list the current fight card during the post fight press conference.

With the Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez running short of opponents; two possible contenders have verbally agreed to fight at the Strikeforce event sometime in March. Former champions Josh Thomson (18-4) and K.J. Noons (11-4) will face off and the winner quite possibly could position themselves next in line for Melendez.

There is something in the water at American Kickboxing Academy. The San Jose based training facility is showing more and more every time their fighters enter into the cage why they are among the elite schools in the country for professional and amateur fighters wanting to make a name for themselves in the sport today. Four fighters delivered solid performances and increased their individual stocks in major ways at Saturdays Strikeforce event in Cincinnati and were all grateful for their team and trainers at AKA.

Coming off back to back wins, MMA veteran Pat “Bam Bam” Healy returns to action this Saturday at Strikeforce World Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov. Stepping onto the card in place of the injured Josh Thomson, Healy will open the night’s main card on Showtime against the Venezuelan Maximo Blanco.

Former Strikeforce lightweight champion, Josh Thomson has withdrawn from his scheduled bout at next month’s Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Semifinals card. The American Kickboxing Academy fighter was set to make his first appearance of 2011 against Maximo Blanco on September 10th.

JZ Cavalcante is Looking for a Fight

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante (15-4-1) wants to fight, now! Arguable one of the top 10 lightweights in the world, Cavalcante last fought in October 2010 against Josh “The Punk” Thomson (18-4) at Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II, where the two battled for three rounds. While the outcome and decision was heavily debated by many in the MMA community, in the end JZ suffered a unanimous decision loss.
