As this train wreck of a Heavyweight Grand Prix comes to a close, it really helps you appreciate that Bellator can put on so many snag-free tournaments. Through a slew of injuries, both real and painfully fake, and a great deal of completely random alternates, we arrive at Josh Barnett vs. Daniel Cormier, with the winner being locked in the forever stasis of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Division.

Strikeforce Event to Showcase American Kickboxing Academy

All eyes in the MMA community will be on Strikeforce this Saturday night as they crown their Heavyweight Grand Prix Champion, when Daniel Cormier squares off with Josh Barnett.  What people will be seeing in three of the four main card bouts, are American Kickboxing Academy fighters trying to win a Grand Prix, a Lightweight Championship and a Number One contender-ship.  It’s a big night in the south bay.

The MMA Fighter Rankings for the month of May look much different from what they did just one month ago, despite many of the ranked fighters not even fighting. Fighter suspensions coupled with losses and big wins by ranked fighters played a bit of havoc on the rankings.

The calendar has turned to April which means MMA fans survived the month-long absence of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Despite some great action from Bellator to fill the void, the action of March did little to the April ranks.

Jake Shields is moving back to Middleweight for next Fight

As more and more fighters seem to be dropping down in weight, one fighter is heading in the opposite direction and moving up in weight class. Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields (27-5-1) has decided to leave the welterweight division once again for the 185-pound division.

Gilbert Melendez Will defend his Title on May 19th

The biggest name left on the Strikeforce roster, Gilbert Melendez will defend his lightweight championship on May 19th but who will stand across from him is anyone’s guess. The event is supposed to take place HP Pavilion in San Jose, California and will also feature the Heavyweight Grand Prix Finale between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier.
