Good to know Strikeforce gets injuries too

ruthless-robbie-lawlerWith the epidemic of injuries to hit the UFC it’s nice to see them sharing injuries with the competition. According to MMAWeekly Trevor Prangley has had to withdraw from his bout with Robbie Lawler at Strikeforce: Evolution due to an undisclosed injury. Trevor Prangley was the replacement for Lawler’s initial opponent, Benji Radach who also had to withdraw due to injury. These injuries are nothing near what the UFC has been going through but with just days before the event Strikeforce must scramble to find an opponent for Lawler. With such little time who does Strikeforce have to fill in on such short notice? The middleweight division of Strikeforce is their deepest division they have right now but many are also fighting Saturday. Here is a list of the Strikeforce Middleweight fighters not scheduled to fight Saturday:

Jake Shields (24-4-1) - Just fought last month & has already defeated Lawler. Not going to happen!

Nick Diaz (20-7) -  Hasn’t fought in 6 month but could he get licensed in CA in time to fight. Doubt it!

Tim Kennedy (11-2) - Fought 2.5 months ago in the Challenger Series, Ready for the big time? Most logical if at weight!

Jason Miller (22-7) - Just fought last month & recovering from staph infection. Not ready!

Luke Rockhold (6-1) - Just fought last month in the Challenger Series. Possibility if cleared & ready!

Evangelista Santos (16-13) -  Fought 3 days ago at Samurai FC 2. Can’t fight!

Frank Shamrock (23-10) - Hasn’t fought in 8 months & only 2 fights in last 30 months. Not going to take a fight on short notice!

The Wild Cards

Dan Henderson (25-7) – Recently signed and will be in San Jose, but at what weight. Doubt it but would be nice!

Melvin Manhoef (23-6-1) – Recently signed and will be in San Jose. If ready lets see it!

I’d love to see one of the newly signed fighters step in but that might be asking too much. Would be also happy with Tim Kennedy stepping into the big show and see what he can do. What do you think should be Robbie Lawler’s opponent?
